Hey June,
I’m not ready for you yet! I had so many good intentions for May, and yet the bills are still scattered on the dining room table, because my office is still in disarray, and even the rebounder trampoline is still covered in papers I meant to get to. Get To. (Sigh)
Ah but June…
I am typing this from my back porch with the birds chirping away. The breeze is ever so slight. There’s not a cloud in the sky and I’m sitting in the shade from a giant cottonwood. My neighbor’s dogs start barking at each other (and everything else), so my neighbor comes to the porch to bring them into the house. We have a minute to chat over the fence. This is a good way to enter June.
June is the month that comes barreling toward me every year.
June is Marcus’ birthday month.
Last year at this time, I told myself that Marcus and I would have to slow down our travel and adventures, so that I could focus on my new job.
SO, yeah – good thing we “slowed down.” So far this year we participated in the Ethan Saylor Memorial Film Festival. We had local school event(s), and then travelled for a #BlackDayBook event in Chicago area. We spoke at the United Nations. And, though it was technically for work, we met old friends and made new friends at a conference in AZ.
Then there was Chrissy’s beautiful wedding. Marcus always loves a good wedding. You can see why…

Looking Good with the Ladies…

CAKE – How they get us to weddings.

Marcus got to help with the cake…
Holy MOLEY – I didn’t include a picture of the groom! Oops. ANYwhoo – it was a fun trip.
But May!
May we were home all month and I was going to get big, important, home stuff done. Plan for the next season. Write so many words. And, AND…
Ahhhhhh. On to plan B.
Because in June we have The Birthday, and a birthday trip, planned. Then it’s back to work and work travels, plus another away wedding.
Autumn will be here in a minute. I’ll be tired of the summer heat and thankful for the colors of the landscape. We’ve already started booking the fall “gigs” in our local area and hope that we can get some good “press” too. The “Be Beautiful, Be Yourself” event is in November and there is so much work and excitement to prepare for that weekend. My heart has picked up its pace just from typing that forthcoming list.
Sloooowwww down baby.
It’s still June. In June comes the longest day of the year, yet it still holds 24 hours like every other day. Hm.
Hey June,
Please give me the presence of mind to soak up every minute of joy you promise.
Please give me the wisdom to sit in the sun in the morning and take in deep breathes of faith in the evening.
June, don’t let me panic that another day, hour, and minute has gone by before my to-do list is done –
I’ll keep moving us in the direction we need to go –
June, give me the patience to know, we will get to the right destination at the right time.
Life is not, in fact, a checklist. It’s breaking into the list to go to the Zoo with my nephews.
It’s closing the computer to talk to a coworker about her rough week at home, or his good news, or her next great idea.
It’s taking the time to do what’s important for the next step, even if you’re not finished with the first.
Life is remembering to breath.
I will leave you today with a song. ”100 Years” by Five For Fighting. Right now I’m “Chasing the years of my life…” I think we should all live like we’ve only got 100 years to live.

This was another indulgence with a Finish the Sentence Friday, hosted by the lovely Finding Ninee. “Hey June” – What do you have to say about June? Link up here. If you’d like to keep up with Marcus and our adventures, join the club here!
Love it! Looking forward to more adventures!
Thanks Camille – Looking forward to you being with us!
You ARE busy! Happy happy birthday to Marcus this month and I hope you all find time to relax in the sun and breathe in some calm. I need to pop over to the link about Be Beautiful, Be Yourself. xo
PS I love that song. I’d sorta forgotten about it.
Thanks Kristi! We’ll try here. And on the song, me too for a while. It’s one of those that I don’t think of till I hear it and I’m like, “Awwww, I love this song” so glad to bring it back for you, too. 🙂
I love the song, but haven’t heard it for a long time. And I love everything about your post – especially the “Hey June” part at the end. June is always filled with promise.
We have birthdays here this month, too. Happy birthday to Marcus!
Thanks! June is a good Birthday Month 🙂
