SO, it’s been a week now.

One week since Mr. Marcus Sikora did his second runway walk at the Be Beautiful, Be Yourself fashion show. I can tell you now that at the event last year, Marcus told me that he wanted to give his own speech at this event. That it was not my idea. I even, gently, asked him a few times, “Are you sure?”

His answer, “Yes.”

So, he did.

From the Global Down Syndrome Foundation official release:

As an author, singer, actor and self-advocate, Marcus Sikora has already accomplished more in his life than most other 26-year-olds. Now he’s gathering yet another accomplishment as the 2017 Be Beautiful Be Yourself Ambassador.

When it comes to describing the Nebraska native, many people tend to use the word creative. The description aligns perfectly with Marcus’ ambitions, in 2015 he released his first animated short and children’s book Black Day: The Monster Rock Band to wildly positive reviews.

“I’ve always liked to make stories,” Marcus

Finish this sentence: “What I’m really trying to say is…”

Our host said – “This’ll be an easy one!”

The reason I like this prompt is it can take you down a wormhole that you didn’t know you needed to travel. The reason I don’t like this prompt is the same.

Soooo I’m late to the party (which I’m actually co-hosting, eek!) because I over-thought and over-wrote and now…

Anyway, what I’m really trying to say (with this website and all of the writing that it

Ok, first things first, #1 this video!

We are Goo Goo Dolls fans and have been since, oh…before some of you were born. (Well, probably not many under 21 reading this, but possible!) ANYway, Marcus and I have been singing along (and karaoke-ing too) to many a Goo Goo Dolls song over the years.  I even wrapped up the Goo Goo Dolls song “Iris” into a starter review of a few Broadway shows a few years ago. Marcus singing “Iris” is something that will never not rip my heart out. From

A Gift From the Universe to Change the World

coffee shop

My son, Marcus, and I have had many writing sessions and meetings with collaborators at our neighborhood coffee shop, particularly while we were working on his first book for children and the accompanying animated short. We also wrote the speech we gave at the United Nations building there earlier this year. Today I write solo and the notebook to my right has the lyric, “The universe is resting in my arms” (from Nina Gordan’s song “Tonight”) written and

Measuring the Year

“Five hundred twenty-five thousand six hundred minutes
How do you measure, measure a year?”

I measure in lessons, in losses, in failures, in wins, and of course, in words. Each of these are compiled in spreadsheets (as I force the abstract into quantifiable cells) and many bits shared right here, under the public eye. Hmm, the public forum. For those of you following along, you may recall the first post of 2019 began:

Oh. My. God. This effing January.

So, there’s that.

I didn’t “triumph” over 2019, like my public facing plan. And for 2020, I’m still
