A Day in the Life of a Husker Football Fan

Marcus and I had a good day in Lincoln yesterday. Cold, but good.

I am a Husker Football fan. Marcus incrementally eased into fandom. Like most people, it started with the food and social aspect. He’d go to a live game with me once in a while, and take in the show of it. Several years back, the stadium added firework blasts after each score, that, on top of a brutal sunburn on the back of his neck, was the final straw. So he decreed, “I like the bar, instead.”

What Marcus Taught Me in Iceland

The Most Important Lesson from our Trip Happened in Iceland.

Can you imagine what it’s like to have your own child’s value, as a human being, debated? A world where you regularly encounter the opinion of scientists and doctors who are literally working to eliminate the entire segment of humanity of which your child is a part…and it all happens without public outrage. In fact, it is happening throughout entire cultures.

I frequently listen to the band Of Monsters and Men when I am writing. I love their lyric videos and their melodies drive emotion. Of Monsters and Men happen

Highlights from our travel journal:

As many good vacations do, this one began on a Friday morning at what Marcus calls “Dark early.”

“I hate dark early!” he said. Don’t we all?  Getting up at 4:00 am (after getting settled at about midnight, everything sneaks up on you, you know?) To hurry up and wait and hurry up and wait. Short flight #1, short layover, on to flight number two – Yea! Marcus decided Mimosa was the way to fly and I agreed. Cheers!

We have been “quiet” because we’ve been busy, in Scotland at the World Down Syndrome Congress, where we met many new friends from around the world.
