Out of Control
Years ago I internalized everything wrong happening around and to me. When people were mean. When my naivete’ allowed for manipulation. When I wanted change but couldn’t see the light at the end of the tunnel… Then there were three Aha moments that changed my future. The first came from this quote:
“If we could change ourselves, the tendencies in the world would also change. As a man changes his own nature, so does the attitude of the world change towards him. … We need not wait to see what others do.” – Gandhi
These wise words have been shortened and summarized into: “Be The Change You Wish to See in the World.” As I read it: don’t look for, or rather wait on, others to change. You change.
Be.The.Change.
It’s Your World
I used to work with some very negative people. I was caught up in a cycle of blame and victimization that was unhealthy and didn’t help anyone, least of all, me. I learned that instead of reacting to them, to accept that I can only control me. And I alone could change and affect the environment we shared. This turned my world around.
I’ve learned a lot since then, so on Wednesdays I’m going to share with you a few tips that will help you to Change The Your World. Look forward to seeing more about my Aha moments and some small tips that make a difference.
The first one is simply ownership of your power to change.
And as always, I’ll look forward to hearing your thoughts, suggestions, and questions along the way.
Very up-lifting post! I find it helpful to take a step back every now and then. If I’m in a bad mood, instead of dwelling on what’s bothering me, I try to find the good things that I’ve got going for me. I know, I know…it’s easier said than done. But if all else fails, there’s always a hot bath and music!
