“The first month the old woman didn’t pay her rent she bought a gun instead.
The next month she ordered a live lobster. A boy brought it in a box strapped to the back of his bike. She handed him a two dollar coin. Then they both turned and stood a moment watching her neighbors shuffle their crying children into an overstuffed car. She shrugged and plucked a single envelope from her mailbox. The boy raced off.”
This is the beginning of the short fiction piece “Orange Sky Preparation.” I’m excited to direct you to the Spider Road Press anthology Up, Do: Flash Fiction by Women Writers where it is included.
I love Flash Fiction. I love the ability to get to know a character, a scene, a story in a concise arc.
If you’re curious to read the rest of my short piece and several other great works in the aggressively short format of flash fiction, order your book copy today.
