Marcus made a peanut butter and jelly sandwich and placed it on the counter.
He said, “What about help?”
Our kitchen overlooks the family room where I sat with a friend.
“Help with what?”
“What about cut?”
“It’s a PB and J sandwich-I’m pretty sure you can cut that yourself.”
“What the hell?” he said.
I looked up with surprise. Marcus, like many 22-year-olds, is known to curse under his breath but doesn’t often blatantly in front of his mother.
“Well,” I said. “Now I’m sure you can cut it yourself.” I looked at my friend whose eyes had widened for our exchange.
House rule…If you can say what the hell, you can cut a sandwich.
